i'm not sure....

Edith,

when we first started this was a Swarovski only design forum, your pieces had to have some kind of Crystallized Swarovski Element included somewhere in the piece. AND you couldn't use another brand of crystal (blasphemy! lol) .... But I think since we've gone public and we get masses of new members, (99.99% don't read the guidelines, netiquette, etc...) So they're not aware of them. (Hence the reason we get asked where to buy Swarovski for the best price once a week...)

I spoke with Admin about the newest designs, and he wrote " I think you could all post designs, which do not contain CRYSTALLIZED - Swarovski Elements. I don't see a problem in posting a design made of completely different materials"... then said "What certainly IS a problem are designs which clearly consists of some competitor's products"

So... i guess it's ok to post them. (I personally wish it was strictly Swarovski...makes things more sparkly)

I wonder... how many of our current members feel....

QUESTION FOR ALL:

Would you prefer the site be strictly for designs including Crystallized Swarovski Elements?

OR

Would you prefer to post designs with any type of materials with the exception other brand name crystal?

If we can get a concensus, maybe we can bring it up to Admin.

NON-SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS

Thanks for your comments and observations Wendy.  I thought that this was a Swarovski promotion site and was meant for users of Swarovski and for relaying news and I think that it should be kept that way but what I have seen lately are strictly another company's seed beads.  There were no Swarovski elements contained therein.

I think we should limit our posted designs

to those using Swarovski Crystallized Elements.  This is a site for crystal design work.  Some pieces may contain more seed or other beads than crystals, but when the crystals are used as a focal element, such as the clasp, I think they are appropriate to post.  If there are no crystals included then I think they shouldn't be posted.  Certainly if the crystal beads are not Swarovski then they should not be posted.

There are many other bead enthusiast sites availalbe for designers interested in other media, so I think we need to keep what makes us special, we are designers who use Swarovski Crystallized Elements as the main beads/components.  This is one of the things I like best about our community, we're all crazy for crystal!

Sparkles and smiles,

Diane

I agree

I love this site for the "crystal" inspiration and the range of designs posted by all levels of beaders/designers. There are a number of other forums where we can post our "non" Swarovski Crystallized Elements designs so I would personally like to see the designs posted here to contain sparkly bits! This also helps us keep educated  and up to date with the various colours, shapes and design possibilities that are possible with Swarovski Crystallized Elements.

That's exactly how i feel Diane,

There are MANY other jewelry design forums, This one is "special" because of Swarovski... it's what seperates us from the others. While we don't want to turn people away, we'd like to encourage more Swarovski crystal usage than others.

I know i don't have a lot of money, so some of my pieces only contain a few Swarovski crystals, but they're there. And I don't feel like I need to post something without it, I can do that somewhere else.

Here Here!

As much as I appreciate and love all beadwork, I too belive that in this Swarovski Crystallized Elements  community that all designs posted should require at least a crystal bead Somewhere!Smile

seed bead work is beautiful and alot of love really goes into the construction of it as well as pieces made even with glass and or even Natural stone beads but... pair them with the sparkling beauty of Swarovski Crystallized Elements and you have sparkle, demension and an added value..

Swarovski has made a name for themselves, we have many customers come in who don't even bead  when they see the pendants and beads they ask....( "Is this Swarovski??) they are mesmerized by the sparkleInnocent and they know the Brand

great topic!!

Dear Members,   as it says

Dear Members,

as it says in our guidelines: "Upload photographs of your unique and individual creations made using CRYSTALLIZEDTM Swarovski Elements and take advantage of the opportunity to exhibit your work in our online gallery!" Hence, I would strongly recommend to post pictures of designs which do actually contain products from CRYSTALLIZEDTM Swarovski Elements

However, I would not judge on individual pieces: for example one user posts several designs using CRYSTALLIZEDTM , why shouldn't they also post a design made from other materials once in a while? Also designs made with other materials could be inspirational, don't you think?

Ultimately, it is you who decide through your ratings whether designs are appropriate or not

This site is dedicated to those who love being creative with CRYSTALLIZEDTM Swarovski Elements

The mission of this community is to provide a place for mutual support,
self-expression and self-presentation (this, especially for professional and
semi-professional designers).

Our goal is to create a fund of
inspiration and instruction (just as we try to do on the regular
website) - only that here, we are not interfering with the flow of creativity. It is
you members who actually make the community (and also the website through their new
connection ) a lot more valuable, than we could ever make it!

I am happy you chimed in,

You are also a member of our community, and a valued member.

I am glad to see the discussion here, and it seems we are of similar minds.  We want our community to feature Crystallized Swarovski Elements.  We all use other materials in our designs of course, but the uniting thread is the crystal elements.

Tongue outI would like to see some of the seed bead designs worked in the 2mm round crystals...what a dream!

Sparkles and smiles,  Diane

No it's super fine Admin,

That's why you're here. I understand your point of view. Members who have been extremely active posting their Crystallized Swarovski Element pieces, may want to share a design they came up with non-CSE related.... (sorry.. can I abbreviate the above? It's a lot to type.. not trying to be rude) But maybe they can do that in the chit chat forum..

like hey guys look what i came up with this weekend. And that's cool. Or maybe they can recreate the design using the Design Tool.

Just food for thought.
