Beads changed my life in 1989 when I took a class with Helen Banes learning to make needlewoven necklaces. Within a short time, though, I had moved into seed beads. I learned Native American techniques from Horace Goodhue so that I could apply them to contemporary beadwork; then later from and Virginia Blakelock; and from there went into writing, teaching and bead collecting. My bead collection includes American art glass beads and 20th century European glass beads.

Hobbies and Interests

Hobbies? What else but beads! My sister tells me I can't go more than five minutes without changing the conversation back to beads. I love their history, economics, manufacture, and when I travel, it is only to countries with a strong bead history, i.e., where I can buy good beads.

I spend about 5-6 hours a day beading...usually 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening and in between I'm writing about beads, assembling kits, etc. Luckily beads aren't edible or I'd be a blimp!

Welcome,

I agree with Zebra, we are indeed honored to have you a part of our group.  I have recently been experimenting with free-form right angle weave because of the "Master Class" article in Beadwork about you.   Your work has inspired me to push my boundaries.

I hope to meet you one day, and take part in one of your classes.  Until then, I hope you will show us some of your designs, comment on ours and drop by and say "hello" in our forums.

Hello Diane

I don't know whether you remember me when I used to write to you from Malta.  Of course you are one of my very first mentors and I am so thrilled to see you here.

I hope that we will see you "live" so to speak on the forum frequently and I certainly cannot wait to see some of your designs in our gallery.

Many best wishes

jacky (menhennet)
